My name is Gill Tully and this is
the story of Highclare. As my time in the Forces drew to a close, I was
stationed at an army camp where I was able to have a dog. I decided, after
long and hard deliberation, to get an Irish Setter. As I was stationed at
Beverley, North Yorkshire, I decided to get an Irish Setter from Pat Rhodes
(Fearnley). That was the beginning of a long and happy relationship with
dogs.
At first I wasn’t very successful in the ring with Emma and it was tough
going to win any prizes, as I was a complete novice. Watching other people
in the ring doing well gave me the incentive to go on.
After two attempts of breeding Emma, with little success, I decided a
change of direction was due. At this point I lived down near Winchester, so
I decided to buy a Welsh Springer Spaniel from one of the local breeders.
The puppy I decided to buy was from Mrs Muriel Marjurice, Chorisma Flame
(Flag). Again unsuccessful in the ring, I decided to go back to the drawing
board and do some homework on the breed. After a bit of advice from a good
friend, I re-homed Flag and purchased a bitch from Ken Spate (Delkens). She
was called Delkens Tamble (Tamble) Delkens Penniko ex Delkens Trisca.
